Wade Williams has been a member of the UChicagoTech team since 2006. As a Project Manager, Wade works closely with faculty members, patent attorneys, and business professionals to evaluate the patentability, scientific merit, and competitive advantage of novel technologies developed at the University of Chicago. Wade manages a large portfolio of technologies from diverse scientific disciplines with a heavy focus on microbiology, infectious diseases, immunology, and molecular biology. He also leads the tangible property licensing initiative of the office, which commercializes antibodies and transgenic animals developed by University of Chicago faculty members.

In addition, Wade plays an integral role in several initiatives within the office, including the implementation and maintenance of systems for the electronic monitoring of licensee compliance, training and mentoring of Associate Project Managers, and standardization of the University’s online marketing presence. He also works closely with University Research Administration to review licensing and confidentiality provisions in grant awards as well as material transfer, corporate sponsored, consulting, and clinical trial agreements.

Prior to joining to UChicagoTech, Wade conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston where he investigated the virulence mechanisms of Bacillus anthracis, the causative agent of anthrax, and its interactions with the mammalian immune system. Wade has an eclectic background, which includes being a light infantryman in the US Army, several years as a food and beverage specialist in Key West, Florida, and even a stint as a commercial lobster fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico.

Wade earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Microbiology from Michigan State University, where he studied the factors that determine the host range of baculoviruses. Wade also holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Chicago based on his research on the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of Staphylococcus aureus.
