Matt joined UChicagoTech in 2006. As a Project Manager, Matt has responsibility for leading the commercialization of promising technologies arising from research at the University of Chicago. This effort entails technology evaluation, intellectual property protection, license negotiation, and relationship maintenance with commercialization partners. Matt manages a large and diverse intellectual property portfolio, which spans fields from medical devices and software to alternative energy technologies.

In addition to Matt’s work in the commercialization of new technologies, he also leads many other office initiatives, including outreach efforts designed to build relationships between the University of Chicago faculty and outside industrial partners. Recently, this effort has taken the form of facilitating seminar speakers and panels to discuss topics in entrepreneurship.

Prior to joining the UChicagoTech team, Matt was a postdoctoral researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. His work spanned a broad range of topics in theoretical particle physics from constraining new particle physics theories based on cosmological observations to fundamental questions about the nature of fermions in lattice gauge theories.

Matt received a B.A. degree from Goshen College studying Math and Physics, and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon. At Carnegie Mellon, Matt worked primarily with Professor Rich Holman studying the early universe, non-equilibrium dynamics of new theories of particle physics. Matt grew up in the Chicago area.
