David Tiemeier joined UChicagoTech as Deputy Director in December 2006. Within the Office, he leads a team that is responsible for building relationships with faculty, for helping to shape and prosecute University intellectual property, and for commercial assessment and licensing of University inventions into existing and start-up companies. The team looks for ways to build value in early-stage projects and draws heavily on external experts to catalyze the translation of basic science into innovative products and services.

David brings close to three decades of industry experience to UChicagoTech. David began his career in industry in 1980, joining Monsanto in St. Louis as the head of Molecular Genetics. After Monsanto’s acquisition of Searle, he moved into Searle’s Discovery Research Division as Senior Director of Immunoinflammatory and Infectious Diseases. In 1992, David relocated to Chicago to become a member of Searle’s Global Licensing Department, where he ultimately held positions as General Manager of the Global New Business Franchise and Vice President of Global Business Development. David moved on to hold senior positions at Pharmacia Corporation and Pfizer. Following his retirement from Pfizer in early 2004, he worked with the biotechnology-based companies NeoPharm (Lake Forest, Illinois), Immtech (Vernon Hills, Illinois), and Kalypsys (San Diego, California).

David holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed postdoctoral studies in Molecular Genetics at the National Institutes of Health before joining the faculty of the University of California, Irvine, Medical School in 1977.
